I’m not sure what to do with Kaitlin.

She absolutely blew me away in the audition, the passion she gave was on another level, the test reads with Ella almost made me cry but she’s just not bringing it here. This isn’t even an issue about having a few off days, they’re all off days. It feels like she’s giving me some half-assed performance and there’s more but she’s pulling back. This story deserves raw emotion. I can’t understand why this is happening and everyone else is really giving it their all but she’s the weak link in the equation.

This is just between you and I, I’m not giving up but I’m at a loss.

Yesterday I took her aside to talk about it, she shrugged it all off and seemed stunned I would even suggest such a thing and made excuses that were very obviously excuses. Anything she wants or needs, I’d gladly try and help out with, but she doesn’t seem respondent to any of that. She’s not sure of her performance and it makes everyone else around her unsure of their own performances along with it. It’s not good for the atmosphere I like to keep on sets.

Julia worked with her. You know how much I love and respect Julia and how Short Term 12 is always going to have a special place in my heart. Even as we were finalizing casting Kaitlin, I spoke to Julia about her and she had nothing but praise to give.

If you have any ideas, shoot them over. I didn’t want to bother you while you were location scouting in Montreal but some of these shots are integral before we move filming over there so I wanted to work this out before it becomes a real problem.
